I put the book "Virtual Attack Vectors" away and kept on looking through the third crate. After a layer of filling material I was close to the bottom. There I uncovered a weird-looking tome which almost immediately started to emit a dark-red, soft, menacing glow. Did the book really sense my presence? Its title was "NecronomiXSSon".
My CORETECHS actually began to flicker with a strange interference pattern, something I haven't encountered before nor since. After a few units the flickering stopped and all of a sudden I felt a strange compulsion to pick up the book and open it. The realization struck me like a ton of bricks: There are downsides to having a neural implant, like when it is manipulated externally. A fact the nice folks from the marketing department of Benevolent Dynamics conveniently forgot to mention in their glossy brochure.
The book's pages were full of strange symbols I had never seen before, basically gobbledygook. However I instinctively (or more accurately: technically) knew they were ancient incantations and powerful spells I simply had to try out.

EDIT: Looks like the good folks at Benevolent Dynamics fixed the CORETECHS, making them immune to these spells.
